Adaptive Technology Activities to Support Learning Objectives

  • Vocabulary: Criteria and Constraints.
  • ENGAGE: Students will watch an Adaptive Volleyball video. Based off the video, students will make a list of challenges and benefits of adaptive sports in their notebooks.
  • EXPLORE: Using an adaptive volleyball court made for the students, students will play a set of Adaptive Volleyball. After completing the game students will continue to document challenges and benefits they experienced during their game play.
  • EXPLAIN: Students will read an article discussing the Engineering Design Process. As a class, we will read aloud and annotate the article highlighting all of the important information in the article.
  • Engineering Design Process Academic Video: To correlate with the EDP article, students will watch a video of the Engineering Design Process in action to create a fog cannon, as well as a device that feeds your pets while you (the student) is on vacation.
  • ELABORATE: Design challenge using the Adaptive Volleyball Worksheet. Students will create a device that will help adaptive players retrieve the ball after a play. Students will brainstorm and create 2-3 potential designs. In groups, students will explain their best design to their team. As a team they will pick one design to use as their final product.
